Michael Weissenbacher studied mineralogy at the University of Innsbruck and finished with a Magister degree in applied mineralogy in 2010. In 2011 he started his professional career by joining the company Imerys. From 2011 to 2017 he was working as a research engineer on refractory projects concerning bricks, castables and sand casting. After these 6 years he became responsible for the research and development for sand casting and investment casting applications.

Since January 2020 Michael became technical support manager for refractories. In this role he is responsible for the technical support in the field of investment casting.

He is based in Villach, Austria, and thus has a direct connection to the ITC (Imerys Technology Center) where the Imerys S&T department for investment casting ceramics is located.

Due to the increased level of modern technology today’s Investment Casting requirements are getting more and more demanding. To fit these necessities contemporary techniques for characterizing the ceramic raw materials, shell and casting parts are essential. These presentations will show some investigation methods used these days. It will demonstrate for example the possibilities to investigate on the stuccos, like grain shape, possibilities to determine the refractoriness of the raw materials /ceramic shells, how to measure the permeability in cold and hot state and how to investigate on the shell structure.
