Destination Helsinki . European Capital of Smart Tourism 2019
The choice of the destination for a Conference or a Seminar is key for a completion of the value proposition associated to any EICF event.
At the EICF we do care in selecting destinations and venues which might be of interest for our attendees
Helsinki took the first place in the European Commission’s The European Capital of Smart Tourism competition for 2019. The initiative recognises outstanding achievements by European cities as tourism destinations in four categories: sustainability, accessibility, digitalisation as well as cultural heritage and creativity. This EU initiative aims to promote smart tourism in the EU, network and strengthen destinations, and facilitate the exchange of best practices.
Helsinki’s aim is to be the most functional city in the world for locals as well as for visitors. An important factor are the digital services developed in close cooperation with the locals. Virtual Helsinki is a digital twin of Helsinki that has been created by means of 3D modelling. The aim is to profile Helsinki as a centre of VR/AR expertise, as well as to attract a million virtual visitors to Helsinki in 2019. Virtual tourism also supports Helsinki’s own goal of being a pioneer in sustainable tourism while reinforcing its reputation as a city that utilises the latest digital innovations.
Helsinki’s focus lies strongly on renewable ways of moving around the city: the City of Helsinki has a plan to be carbon neutral by the year 2035. A prime example are the immensely popular city bikes that the citizens and visitors alike have truly adopted.
The EICF selected Helsinki as the destination for the 2019 Seminar & Exhibition
