Prof. Milan Horáček was born on 29th Oct 1948 in Prerov, Czech Republic. He is married having 2 sons and 3 grandchildren. He graduated at the Brno University of Technology in 1972 where also defended his PhD thesis (1976) and spent his whole professional carrier. His actual position at the BUT is full time professor (since 2008)
Prof Horacek ś lecturing activities are mostly connected with courses for students of BSc, MSc and PhD levels. Research areas are quite broad and as examples could be given following areas: thermal properties of sand mixtures, crystallisation of grey iron, study of metal solidification in ceramic shells, gating systems calculation (simulation, software creation), filtration of melts in ceramic shells, accuracy of investment castings and RP methods in combination with investment casting technology.
Prof Horacek has published about 120 articles in journals and in conference proceedings.
He is still very active in working in the Czech and also international Foundry Societies and Associations. In the Czech Foundry Society – vice president since 1994. In the Czech Investment Casting Association – vice chairman since 1996 and in the World Foundry Organization – executive member (2002 – 2010), vice president in 2008, president of the WFO in 2009 and actually being its past-president.
